Speech software on the internet works wonders for dyslexics

The internet is not only a very effective source of information and learning but it is also invaluable in providing enabling or assistive technology for specific tasks. It has been seen that those with dyslexia have problems in reading large amounts of text and following from one line to the next. The voice software which is available on the net can be called one of the dyslexia tools as it works as a text reader.

Many types of software read out the web content aloud with clear pronunciation of words, phrases ands sentences. The software works in many ways depending upon the program chosen. Some allow the text to be copied and pasted onto the clipboard where it can be reformatted to suit individual need or it can be saved as a MP3 file and played later. Some programs work only on subscribed websites while others are free. The features included in this text software may vary from pronunciation of single or group of words to automatic reading of the entire article aloud. Meanings of words and examples of those words are given and words or sentences can be tracked (words are highlighted as they are said aloud) for easier understanding. Speed, volume, pitch and type of voice can be chosen.

Not for nothing is the internet an exciting medium as it can be customized to each individual’s specific needs and it is here that dyslexia students can really benefit from its many features.
