Some of the causes of dyslexia

The extent of learning disability caused by dyslexia varies from person to person. But the overall picture of a struggle with the learning process is the same with everybody. As to the causes of dyslexia, some of the theories are given below.

# Genetic and neurobiological: It is believed that dyslexia may be inherited through genes. The chances are that if a person has dyslexia, his parents, grandparents etc had dyslexia too.

According to some researchers, dyslexia may be the result of incorrect neuronal migration. Nerve cells that make up the brain grow away from their actual place, and because of this the brain does not develop fully.

# Early hearing problems: Among the causes of dyslexia according to other researchers, if there is a hearing problem in early childhood, he/she cannot hear properly how letters sound, and the brain cannot make the connection between the letters and their sound. This absence of sound recognition in early childhood remains a life-long struggle.

# Crossed wires: Some studies suggest that children with dyslexia use the brain’s right side for language related functions, whereas a normal child uses the left side. The brain’s right side is not meant for language related work, so this suggests that the wires got crossed somewhere. So the dyslexic person who depends on the right side works twice as hard for language comprehension.

# Combined causes of dyslexia: Most people believe that a combination of all the causes mentioned above are responsible for dyslexia.

However, knowledge of the causes of dyslexia is not essential for dealing with the problem.
