Sir Samuel Orton – dyslexia and his contribution to the field

Sir Samuel Orton – dyslexia and his detailed study in the field is something that affects every dyslexic patient in some way of the other today. In other words, anybody who wants to deal with this disorder in a proper scientific way, then chances is that they would find themselves following the path illuminated by him. So who is this person who you simply cannot ignore?

Well sir Orton was basically a physician from America, who took deep interest in this subject and contributed greatly to this field with his study of the disabilities caused due to brain damage, etc. He was one of the first ones ever to put across the concept that the learning difficulties caused to individuals facing dyslexia could be because their brains are not being able to establish the right coordination with the organs, which makes perceiving things tougher for them.

He also helped the world understand why exactly they have trouble understanding basic directions and shapes, and why the letters they write can often take forms that are totally twisted and peculiar.

A detailed study and lots of experiments later, he began introducing new concepts in teaching too, so that they could be trained in a more appropriate way. While this was way back in the first half of the 20th century, it is interesting to note that even today most of dyslexia related treatments and teaching practices form their base concepts on what was devised by Sir Samuel Orton. Dyslexia and its patients would surely owe a lot to this genius for the rest of history.
