Dyslexics Directionality
The majority of dyslexics, whether adults or children get confused about the directions.
Left-Right Confusion:-
1. Even when grown up, the dyslexic has to take the help of what has been taught to them earlier to distinguish between left and right. It is never spontaneous and automatic.
2. In dyslexic households one of the most common phrases used is, “it’s on the left – the other left.”
3. It is this that causes their confusion with ‘b’ and‘d’ with one pointing to the right and the other to the left.
4. Dyslexics frequently begin math problems from the wrong side or try to carry over a number in the wrong direction.
Up-Down Confusion:
Some of the dyslexic children are confused about what is up and what is down. This makes them mix up b-p, d-q, as well as m-w.
Confusion about Directionality of Words:-
1. They get confused over first and last, before and after, next and previous as well as over and under.
2. Time also confuses them and they fail to easily grasp the meanings of yesterday and tomorrow.
3. There is also confusion as regards north, south, east and west.
4. Adults afflicted with dyslexia tend to easily get lost while driving even in places where the have lived for a good number of years.
5. Map reading is an extremely difficult if not impossible task for them.
