Dyslexics are creatively brilliant!

Although dyslexia is a medical disorder caused by some biological malfunctioning of the brain, dyslexia children tend to get slotted as ‘stupid’ or ‘lazy’. This is because simple words and mathematical problems for their age are beyond their grasp and as they grow into adulthood, this dyslexic disability may manifest itself in more serious mathematical errors, poor time management and an inability to retain instructions or convey messages correctly. However, recent awareness has made educators as well as the common person more understanding about dyslexics and they are also realizing that dyslexia in fact can turn out to be a gift for creativity.

Opposed to the general public which perceives the world linearly, dyslexics see things in whole pictures. Most of the people see the world from a fixed point of reference whereas dyslexics have the ability to move that point of reference which helps them to see things from different perspectives very rapidly. This is useful while examining objects but a handicap when it comes to linear symbols like letters or words. The solution to this is to somehow present those symbols in the form of images. Many dyslexics have unique creativity precisely because their so-called problem allows them to see things from different angles which cannot be done by the so-called normal person. Thinking multi-dimensionally comes naturally to dyslexics and this spurs their creativity resulting in brilliant innovations or artistic endeavors. Dyslexia is just a label and does not mean that such individuals are incapable of intellectual or creative greatness.
