Dyslexia- problems in detecting the right amount of brightness
One of the dyslexia signs is the inability to understand whether something is too bright or less bright. One of the main biological causes for dyslexia appears to be the irregularity in the magnocellular pathway of the brain. This magnocellular pathway is the optical processing pathway of the brain which enables an individual to judge the brightness and motion of any given thing. Any discrepancy in this region results in impaired ability to judge brightness and motion. But, dyslexia also is accompanied often by other strengths such as creative brilliance, quick understanding of certain things and empathy with other individuals.
Very often it is seen that a dyslexic child is brilliant when it comes to navigating the computer for various programs and different types of information. But, they have no idea whether the screen brightness or the font size is right for them. They know what and where the screen brightness or the font button is but they do not feel the need of adjusting the button until someone does it for them. It is only then do they realize that the brightness or the font size has become so much better. One of the dyslexia strategies to overcome this particular problem could be to tell such children to adjust the computer as soon as they start on it. This makes them see the difference and also gives them a sense of control of what they are learning. Dyslexia is a permanent disability needing ongoing support.
