Adult dyslexia tests- what are they?

Dyslexia has been defined as a learning disability in which an individual has difficulties in reading, writing and spelling words which are considered normal at their age. Although dyslexia disability does not mean that an individual is intellectually deficient, it can, nevertheless be quite a debilitating problem for children and adults alike. A simple way of getting a dyslexia diagnosis is by taking an adult dyslexia test in which their ability to spell, read, write is evaluated. Dyslexic adults misspell ordinary words like ‘friend’, ‘island’ etc. because they spell it phonetically. For instance, ‘friend’ is spelt like ‘frend’, ‘journey’ like ‘jerney’ or ‘enough’ like ‘enuf’. Spelling, reading and writing tests are taken to determine whether they are dyslexic or not.

People with dyslexia have problems in recognizing directions. For this reason, the test examines whether the adult can differentiate between left and right. Also, dyslexic individuals find it difficult to follow instructions and the more the quantity of sequences in a set of instructions the more difficult it is for them to follow those instructions. They may be asked to repeat words in certain sequences as was narrated to them in the course of the dyslexia test. Apart from hindered language skills, basic mathematical problems like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication also becomes difficult for them. In an adult dyslexia test, some specific mathematical problems may be given which dyslexics may especially find hard to solve. An adult dyslexic test helps clear misapprehensions and doubts and makes way for better understanding of the situation.
